Heading south through Milton Keynes

After exploring the Erewash canal I rejoined the river Trent briefly before turning onto the river Soar through Loughborough and then Leicester to rejoin the Grand Union canal. The Soar meanders through largely open countryside before reaching Leicester.  Some of the weirs offer great photo opportunities along with big skies.

There is light at the end of the tunnel.

The picturesque Foxton lock flight, a staircase of 10 locks.  Or to be pedantic to staircases of 5 locks with a short pound in the middle.

On joining the Grand Union I headed south through the 7 lock Buckby Flight which are very heavy locks and hard work to get through.  A night in the lovely little canalside village of Stoke Bruerne, home to a canal museum.

And now moored up for a while at Milton Keynes hoping the cold spell will soon pass and Spring can get underway in earnest.
